Jeanie Buss Says Phil Jackson Could Leave The Lakers Soon

Los Angeles Lakers Executive Vice President Jeanie Buss can’t be happy with her team’s performance in the playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. While the Lakers have clawed back for a 3-2 lead in the series with two games left to play, uninspired performances and underwhelming games by star Kobe Bryant have prompted whispers that perhaps the Lakers are aging and in need of a tune-up. The head Coach Phil Jackson likes to have some challenges, but when superstar players begin to lose interest (as they did when he coached the Chicago Bulls at the end of the Michael Jordan era), Jackson has looked to many greener pastures. Will Phil Jackson leave the Lakers, even though Jeanie Buss is his girlfriend?

Realism from Jeanie Buss about Jackson and the Lakers

According to Yahoo! Sports, Jeanie said that if the Lakers win, Jackson will probably return meaning a three peat in 2010-2011. He definitely doesn’t need money and isn’t looking for any mortgage loan restructuring right now. Jackson is obviously a head coach a team would want on the sideline. Buss acknowledged as much, saying “I know Phil will be coaching next year, somewhere. Whether it’s here or someplace else I don’t know. … There’s going to be a lot of good jobs that come up this summer.”

Could Jeanie Buss be left by Jackson for LeBron James?

It really might happen differently than you think. Yahoo suggests that Jackson might leave the Lakers for the Cleveland Cavaliers. That might happen if LeBron James re-signs with the Cavs. Cleveland is close to winning a championship and the players are hungry, but they haven’t been able to put the pieces together completely. That could be the kind of challenge Jackson desires. Jeanie Buss might just be using all of this media to force Phil Jackson into committing. A woman usually likes a man who can commit.
