Many of you must be thinking that how can there be something so big that can destroy a team. Then let me tell you, there can be numerous causes.
When it comes to soccer drills for kids, you have to be very careful and strategic. Make it a point to know and value psychology of the kids. Exchange words with them discussing things from their point of view. But sadly, most coaches are not ready to adapt to this. They simply close their eyes to the dissimilarity between teaching adult players and kids.
Here you go; main errors that coaches make that result in a team’s downfall.
1. To many coaches, their job appears to be very simple. They don’t consider in necessary to be prompt in reaching the ground, set up the drills, or systematize practice sessions. These qualities are not just unacceptable and also upset the kids. Kids tend to be very serious about soccer and you should too. Make arrangements for youth soccer drills beforehand. Any equipment required to execute the drills should be assembled in advance.
Don’t be late. Do not come to the field after kids. In reality, be present there to welcome the kids. What you get here is the additional time to run through the drills or plan out things.
2. Before the sessions, when the coaches impart instructions for kids soccer drills, they get so lost in it so as to loose track of the time. Have you ever considered how bad that can be? Understand that kids come to play soccer, not to hear your long lectures. Keep your words of wisdom brief and straight forward. Use these sessions in a way that the kids get inspired to play and enjoy the game.
Also, do not interrupt the kids when they are playing. If the kids do anything incorrectly, make a note of it and share it afterwards. Also, stay out of the field when the kids are practicing.
3. Some coaches use foul language with the young players. In soccer drills for youth, both the behaviors are unacceptable. It is never a good idea to show your emotions on the field. It is natural for the kids to make errors on the field. Do not forget that they are children. Never take things very critically and make it an excuse to get bad with the players.
In such a situation, you disengage the kids from the game and also create problems for yourself. Soccer is about mind games. When the kids understand this, they feel inspired.
