Salt Removal critical for Preventing Tackle Failure
Every year $thousands of expensive tackle is wrecked by salt corrosion. The salt water fishing environment with the ever present salt water spray, salty winds & salty hand contact is tough for any tackle to combat. Effective salt removal is critical if you want your gear to last as it was hopefully designed to.
Salt is unique in its ability to stick to surfaces, combine this with its capacity to absorb atmospheric moisture and it doesn’t matter how hard you try to wash it off, a small amount will be left behind establishing a salt corrosion areas which will end up jambing what ever gear it has stuck to. So total salt removal is a must, otherwise your precious boat, valuable game fishing reels will slowly be eaten away. Even your hooks & lures will suffer, quietly rusting away in your tackle boxes.
A lot of the salt corrosion goes on out of site, your conscientious cleaning with fresh water often flushes salt into unseen places that are out of view. Now the salt commences its caustic, grating action, quietly binding up the metals it is in contact with.
So what is the solution to salt removal?
The key to comprehensive salt removal is salt neutralisation; making the salt inert so it has no reactivity and removing the salt crystals that can bind up fishing reels and reel seats. This is best implemented with diluted salt neutralising solutions, that react with the salt sticking to every surface, chemically changing it to stop the salt’s corrosive nature.
One of the most powerful products for doing this is Salt-X SX50, it is concentrated, water soluble and neutralize salt immediately. SX50 also has the advantage of being able to penetrate deep into cracks and crevices de-naturing the salt residue and arresting the salt corrosion cycle. An added benefit is the coating that remains once the SX50 has air dried. This provides the surface with additional protection and makes salt removal easier next time round. It also leaves critical lubricants intact, unlike other solvent based products!
So if you are committed to removing salt from your equipment, start using SX50 and halt the salt corrosion that is quietly destroying your tackle.
