2009 NFL Game of the Week
There’s no doubt that some amazing games will be played out in the NFL over the weekend. The game of the week, and surely the very young season, will be played between the New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants. The Giants head into New Orleans’ Superdome having won three out of three on the road already this season. They demolished the hapless Oakland Raiders last weekend, and gave quarterback Jemarcus Russell nightmares with their ferocious defense. They sacked him multiple times, and forced a few fumbles which led to great field position and easy scoring opportunities for the offence. The offence was firing on all cylinders with Eli Manning rattling off touchdown after touchdown to wide open receivers for a huge 28-0 lead before he was replaced by back-up quarterback David Carr in order to rest plantar fasciitis which has been troubling him for a couple of weeks. The final score of 44-7 showed no justice to how large a discrepancy there was between the teams. Surprising wide receiver Steve Smith, who has come out of nowhere to become Manning’s primary target, was again on song, as was another receiver Mario Manningham.
The Giants are rolling and they will be tough to beat, even though they are on the road for the fourth time. They have practiced and mastered a very good road system, and surely coach Coughlin will have the team ready to battle the undefeated Saints. New Orleans had the bye this past week, but are still 4-0 led by an offence driven by QB Drew Brees, who is an early favorite for MVP. In his last two games, Brees was quieter than usual, but his receivers know their routes well, and will be ready should the Giants defense not get to Brees in time. My friends and I are looking forward to the rest of the season and even bought football jerseys for dogs, so our 4-legged friends can show off their true colors! Many of my friends also bought a Bears dog jersey for their pups.
