Cue sports are known worldwide for the unique kind of fun and excitement that they bring. Some games that falls under this broad category are nine-ball, cushion caroms, and snooker. Every one of them are played on top of a table with a flat surface, which is reffered to as a billiard table. To understand the difference between these various types of tables, it is good to know these important billiard table size.

Different Billiard Tables Dimensions

Snooker Tables

Among several types of billiard tables, the snooker table is one of the famous. Based on standard measurement, this table’s width is 1,778 millimeters, or about 5 feet and 10 inches. In term of length, it’s measurement is 8.5 inches or 3,569 millimeters. A smaller variation also available, which dimensions usualy 9 feet and 5 inches long and 5 feet and 10 inches wide. The top cushion must have a height of at least 2 feet and 9.5 inches to 2 ft and 10.5 inches. Each of the six pockets of this table measures 3.5 inches.

Pocket Billiards Tables or Pool Tables

Of all the different cue sports available, some of the most popular are played on this particular type of billiard table such as straight pool, nine-ball and eight ball. It has different dimensions when compared to a snooker and carom billiards table. It sizes varies, including the 7-foot, 8-foot and 9-foot tables. In a 7-foot table, the playing surface measures 38 inches wide and 76 inches long. In an 8-foot table, an area of fourty-eight inches wide and ninety-two inches would be the playable area. For the 9-foot table, players compete on top of a fifty inches wide and one hundred inches long flat surface. The World Pool-Billiard Association recognizes only the 8-foot and 9-foot table variations for use in tournament play (read more on pool table dimensions).

Carom Billiards Tables

This one table type does not have any pocket, unlike any other billiard table. It is usually used to play unique but highly exciting game variations like cushion caroms, straight rail and three-cushion billiards. In addition, it is also considered the official table for other fun games such as artistic billiards and balk line. In terms of dimensions, this particular type of table measures 9.32 feet long & 4.66 feet wide. When it comes to height, it is usually somewhere in between 29.53 inches and 31.5 inches, which means the space between the ground and the playing surface.
