Rakeback Poker

The poker industry has had a massive growth in the number of active poker players. From seemingly out of nowhere, the poker world has turned into an impressively strong, and highly profitable industry. Let’s see why people are interested in poker, and for what reasons it has turned into such a popular game.

Why is it that most people enjoy playing or watching poker games? The reasons most people play poker are just a couple of  special things poker offers us. Here are few examples that express why people enjoy playing, and watching poker.

Part of playing poker is the head on struggles that players engage in, the head games that go on. Learning to get your opponent to do what you would like is what we are talking about here. It’s hard to find something that beats making an outrageous bluff to win a monster pot.

There is luck and skill, and even though this can be frustrating at times, people just love it. People are definitely intrigued by the chance to win huge money. Tournaments with big fields give you this chance. Almost anyone has the ability to become a very good poker player.

So, it is easy to see why people like poker. Just what happened to cause poker to become so much more prevalent? Why did poker all of a sudden become a big business? The following three events were responsible. An invention (the hole card cam), an idea (online poker rooms), and a surprise (Chris Moneymaker wins the 2003 WSOP Main Event) added up to a poker boom.

It begins in 1995 when Henry Orenstein invents a device called the pocket card camera. This device allowed a TV audience, watching coverage of a poker event to see the player’s hidden cards, or “hole cards”, while the play was proceeding. Seeing what the people were betting with made a huge impact on TV viewer interest.

Then, web based poker rooms opened up, and people started playing poker online. Now, everywhere you could get online, is a poker room. Online poker rooms started to grow as more people started playing online.

So, we now see a big increase in TV ratings with the new hole card camera. Now, more people are watching and playing poker than ever before. Now, with things growing, only a spark was needed to set things on an explosive growth pattern.

Chris Moneymaker now wins the WSOP Main Event in 2003. Winning over 2 million dollars. The prize money became huge, because of the increased number of players, mostly online players. This combination of factors triggered an explosion of poker activity.

Now, poker players are celebrities, and celebrities are poker players. The three events described have combined to create a huge industry that makes millions, no, billions of dollars each year. There seems to be now slow down in the poker boom yet.

Hindsight is 20/20 vision. But now, it is easy to see the influence that these three events have had on the massive growth poker has seen. This has become an industry that generates billions of dollars annually. There seems to be nothing to stop poker from growing at this point.
