Where To Find Africanized Bees
If you’re going to start beekeeping soon, it’s essential to get all the information you can about the different breeds of bees that you can raise. Africanized bees are among the most common bees that live ‘in the wild’, but many people don’t know the characteristics of these bees, or how to properly raise them.
Africanized bees are commonly known as killer bees. These insects are the hybrids of African honey bees and European bees, usually insects that are of Italian origin. Africanized bees are the descendants of 26 Tanzanian queen bees that were accidentally released by a beekeeper in 1957. The bees were released in Brazil, and the hives that took these bees in were particularly aggressive.
Africanized bees swarm more frequently than other bees, which means they are extremely protective of their territory. And, if the food supply is low in one part of the country, Africanized bees are more likely to migrate to another area in order for the hive to survive. The entire colony may also relocate as a response to stress or agitation, which is commonly referred to as ‘abscond’. If a person disrupts the hive for any reason, they may experience stinging and swarming, and this has caused serious injury, and even death in some cases if a person is particularly allergic to stings.
The bees that are assigned to guard the hive increase when it comes to Africanized bees, which means that the alarm zone around the hive is greater. So, you may see one or two bees within a few feet from the hive to keep people and other animals away, and the closer you get, the more bees you will encounter.
If you’re trying to raise Africanized bees for the purpose of producing honey, you should also be aware that these bees can not survive in extreme weather conditions. For instance, if it is too cold in an area, the bees will swarm to a different location, or try to find a place in the area that is warmer and more humid. If the weather conditions are too warm, it is likely that Africanized bees will swarm together to search for a place that offers more ventilation for the hive.
Africanized bees now live in various parts of the world, including the West Indies, Mexico, and parts of Texas. These killer bees have also been found in states such as Florida or California. If you are seriously interested in bee keeping, you will need to take a few classes or seminars that will show you how to deal with this hostile species of bee, so that you can take advantage of great honey while keeping yourself safe.
